If you are a grieving teen, this is a hike for you. Join us on our adventure out of daily life and into the wilderness! It will be approximately 5 miles of a hike, our skilled hike leaders will set a pace that accommodates the group. The hike will happen at the Skokomish Lower South Fork Trail, a walk along the river through lush old growth. We will meet in Olympia at 9:30 AM, vanpool to the trailhead, and be back around 4:30 PM.
It’s teens only so you will be others who get it about grief, have a chance to see how Wild Grief facilitates connecting with nature, your grief and each other. No previous hiking experience needed. We expect the hike to last at least 5 hours with time to honor our grief and soak up the beauty.
Wild Grief’s COVID Policy will be in place. Wild Grief hike leaders are trained in leading hikes safely and are certified in wilderness first aid.
What’s a grief hike? Every grief hike begins with an opening circle, an acknowledgement of who is here and who we are carrying in our hearts. Then we walk in silence for 10 minutes. Soon the group morphs and changes, forming small groupings or solitary walkers. Conversations can be deep or light, and there are times of walking with another in silence. We acknowledge that each of us is somewhere in our grief journey and are welcome. After our lunch break and there is another invitation to share as a group. We end with a closing circle.
We cap participation at 10 teens and it’s first come first serve so we recommend registering early.
