We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 2020 Solo Together Teen Program!
For teens age 13-18 who have lost a loved one, this is a four day opportunity to explore the wild in your own neighborhood, engage in creative activities to help deal with your loss, connect virtually with other grieving teens, and receive support from skilled guides.
We will have activities and conversations about grief and how that impacts you. You will be connected with peers who have had people die and so you will not have to explain yourself. We believe the best support you can have is each other. You will also be with leaders who have skills and experience in connecting with nature and who also have their own grief stories.
What to Expect:
We will first meet up as a group through video chat on the Thursday evening prior to the trip (Aug 20) to play games, get to know each other, and get oriented to the program. We will then send you a package in the mail full of goodies, such as a day pack, journal, headlamp, snacks and treats, some art projects, and even a candle for our evening “campfire.”
We will ask you to find your own special place in nature before we meet again a week later. This could be a patch of grass near your home, a park nearby, or a local nature trail. Somewhere you are comfortable spending time in each day during the four days of Solo Together. We will emphasize safety and will have resources to help you and your family determine a place that feels right for you.
A week after our initial meeting, the four day program will begin. That Thursday-Sunday, we will circle up online from 10-11 each morning to check in and talk about the activities for the day. Then we will each go to our place in nature to connect with nature and do some creative activities about grief and how it impacts you. We will be able to share our experiences and thoughts with each other on a closed social media platform through chat, uploading videos, photos, audio recordings, art you’ve created, journal entries, anything! We will circle up at the end of each day again for a “campfire” from 7-8 to talk about what happened during the day.
This program is free and open to anyone 13-18 who has lost a loved one. We are excited that because this program is all remote and virtual, participants can join from anywhere. We are based in Washington State, so all program times listed are in Pacific Time. If we have enough participants register from another time zone, we will consider shifting the times to accommodate the time zone difference.
